On April 24, 1994 a phone call derailed the life of entrepreneur Carol Kaufman. “Ms. Kaufman, your parents have been involved in a tragic accident,” said the NJ police officer. “Your mother’s been killed. Your father’s in a coma and is being airlifted to Hartford Hospital.”
Carol, a single mom and businesswoman, became the primary care coordinator for her dad for the next 14 years, inheriting a morass of legal documents, aides, medications, policies, bank accounts and a host of other critical docs and information. When her dad passed away in 2008, she went on a 5-year scavenger hunt, trying to find everything her parents had owned so she could settle the estate.
Even with industry-lauded experience helping businesses organize and streamline, as well as building a multimillion-dollar software company ultimately acquired by SunGard, Carol had entered the swamp of her parents’ information overload. She mused that there had to be something out there that could help her get organized, so she jumped onto the Internet. Yet no such product existed.
This experience led to the creation of CBData®, a PC-based product that consolidated all the personal, financial and medical information about every family member, in the winter of 2008. The product was first released in 2009.Â
As time went on, people wanted a product they could access on any device; Mac, PC, Mobile. They wanted to be able to use only certain parts of it. And they wanted the ability to have multi-user and sharing capabilities.
Finally, in the summer of 2018, our team started working on a secure, web-based platform based on CBData. We renamed the product Pinventory® (because, after all, it’s all about your personal inventory) and in October of 2020, we released our flagship product: Pinventory® Home Inventory.Â
Pinventory is a secure, web-based vault that organizes and stores personal information. Pinventory® Home Inventory focuses on creating a catalog of your home, its contents and critical documents in order to get the most from insurance claims and help resolve family and estate issues. Our companion app allows you to take photos on your phone, input basic information about each one and seamlessly save both to your online account after clicking “save.” You can access your information from anywhere, anytime and share it with whoever you want. With the increase in climate-related disasters and the unfortunate reality that accidents can occur any time, such a product is more imperative than ever.
Knowing how important people’s collections are, as well as how time-consuming documenting this information can be, we recently released extensive, unique features for collections and collectibles.  We’ve made it quicker and easier than ever to catalog collections.  Users can now access customized sets of fields specific to their collection type, such as rare books, comic books, baseball cards, sports memorabilia, wine, vinyl records, dolls, trains… whatever type of collection you want to inventory. If we don’t have the set you want, we’ll create it for you at no additional charge. That way, all you have to do is take the photos and fill in the information, and you’ve got your proof, as well as a catalog of your prized collection!
We hope people jump on our Pinventory platform to better protect their home contents and their families. As we keep adding more and more functionality to Pinventory, Carol’s goal is, still, that no one ever has to ever go through what she did.
If it’s important to you, it belongs in Pinventory!
